Goals and Objectives
Accountability
Goal: To be able to meet the needs of students while accepting constructive criticism regarding areas where I can improve my skills and knowledge.
Objectives: Complete allotted number of student consultations and prepare a presentation on counseling services, while accepting new opportunities to grow and learn within both my personal and professional lives.
Impartiality
Goal: To provide unbiased support to all students so that they can reach their fullest potential.
Objectives: To establish clear boundaries with students from the beginning of the internship, engage in active listening and show respect for students individual experiences no matter their different cultural backgrounds.
Discipline
Goal: To understand the consequences of my actions and have strategies in place for dealing with stress, pressure, and other obstacles that a counselor is likely to face.
Objectives: To receive guidance lessons, to ask for help in the areas where I am in need, and to implement strategies that supervisors help me to see.
Awareness
Goal: To refrain from bias and to ensure that my own personal beliefs do not interfere with my objective task of counseling clients/students.
Objectives: To accept that others have different views, beliefs, values, and ambitions from me, and to set aside my personal thoughts and feelings when acting in a professional capacity.
Growth
Goal: To question my own beliefs and assumptions so as to be in a constant and consistent state of self-reflection with regard to my own competency as a counselor.
Objectives: To journalize and reflect every day, and to accept feedback on my development throughout my internship; to be able to see how I have grown from the first week to the last week of my internship with regard to self-examination based on my journalizing and implementation of advice gained during feedback sessions.
